Change in Store for JABA

JABA (the Jefferson Area Board for Aging) has announced that its CEO since 1982, Gordon Walker, will leave his post in early 2013 in order to work on special projects with the agency. This will be only the third change in leadership for the area agency on aging since its founding in 1975.

A Voice for Those in Long-Term Care

Long-Term Care Ombudsmen work to improve the quality of life for those in nursing homes and assisted living facilities, and to provide much needed support to their families. To fill the ever-growing demand for these “angel advocates” JABA is now recruiting volunteers to take part in this year’s training program.

Soup for Seniors Food Drive

In recognition of the annual Martin Luther King Day of Service, JABA has announced “Soup for Seniors”, a canned food drive benefiting local, low-income older adults. 

 

“Low-income seniors who are homebound or who have trouble getting around are particularly vulnerable during the winter months,’ explains Martha Williams, Manager of Volunteer Services at JABA. New ODP Statewide Survey Reveals Seniors/Boomers Views on Aging

On Thursday, November 17, 2011, the Older Dominion Partnership (ODP), a nonprofit organization that works to better prepare Virginia for the impact of the aging population boom, released results of a statewide survey of Virginians ages 50 to 105.
