Collaborating for vitality and choice in the second half of life

I scour the Internet daily staying abreast of the latest trends in Universal Design. I'm happy to have discovered the article I'm sharing here. A major media outlet, the Los Angeles Times, has seen the light in describing UD first and foremost as easy, convenient and stylish, not simply "for the disabled", "handicap accessible" or "aging in place" (although it's all those things too). I pay attention to every UD related article I can find and this is THE first one that didn't focus on inability.

I'm going to stop now and beg you to read entirely,  The Age of Ease. Reporter Mary MacVean provides links and pictures from vendors and manufacturers showing off the latest and greatest in UD from the annual Kitchen & Bath Industry Show in Chicagothe world's largest international trade event.

Granted, many of the fixtures and gadgets are expensive; however, this gives you an overview of where building science is headed in these most important rooms. It'll soon become less expensive, standard fare. This Friday I'll post in our newsletter, The Current, more practical options with a link to a webinar showing different approaches designing a universal bathroom.
