Collaborating for vitality and choice in the second half of life
Last year I spent six months compiling a comprehensive assessment home owners can use to compare all areas of their property, inside and outside including the garage and yard. I posted the Lifetime Home Survey (LTHS) in October and this week released the first revision. You can access both the mini- and full versions by clicking this link.
I reviewed 17 sources and the final document was vetted and proofed by an architect partner Charles Hendricks of The Gaines Group. Charles is an expert in green building science, indoor air quality and universal design.
Two final points, universal features in a home merely distill to convenience, emphasizing control and comfort, and eliminate the frequency of how often you must bend, stoop, reach or stretch to accomplish something around the house.
Our cause of building new and retrofitting "Lifetime Homes" has nothing to do with house style or geographic location and is more about function, specifically that the house is easy to use for anyone of any ability or condition. As we say, a home should be convenient from 5 to 105 and no matter what.
So print the Lifetime Home Survey, grab a tape measure and see how your home measures literally. Please save and share the LTHS with those you care about.
