Collaborating for vitality and choice in the second half of life
Many seniors, and others with impaired vision, have difficulty using their computers and as a result do not enjoy the same user experience as those that see well. All versions of Microsoft Windows, especially Windows 7, have a number of easy to use features to improve screen visibility. These features are almost universally found in the Control Panel which can be found by clicking in the Start Button in the lower left corner of the Windows 7 screen.
Probably the easiest adjustment to make is to decrease the screen resolution which makes items on the screen appear larger and easier to view. Start Button…Control Panel…Adjust Screen Resolution…Resolution will get you to the proper location to lower the screen resolution. After making the change and you are given a 15 second period in which to accept or reject the change. For most people with impaired vision this change is enough to allow them to better enjoy their computer experience. Remember the screen resolutions available to you will depend on the exact hardware contained in your computer.
Other hints for making Windows based computers easier for senior computer users will follow in the coming weeks. If you would like individual attention please contact me, Mark Watlock, at (434) 566-2489 or mark@adtechtraining.com.
